The mealworm (tenebrio molitor) is the larval form of the mealworm beetle. During their two-month of development, they shed their exoskeleton up to eleven times because it doesn't grow with them. A new exoskeleton is produced beneath the old one.

The mealworm beetle lays up to 300 eggs over several months. The larva hatch from the eggs after a few days.
After two-month of development, the mealworms become sluggish and pupate. During this phase the pupa undergoes the transformation to a beetle.
We are a team of four founders from different fields. We met during our studies at the Karlsruher Institute of Technology. The idea for our smart insect farm came up in 2017.
